U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan expressed his satisfaction with President Donald Trump's recent endorsement of the Alaska Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Project, highlighting it as a key priority for the new administration. The President's remarks were made during a joint address to Congress.
Senator Sullivan has been actively promoting the Alaska LNG Project, which he views as a significant opportunity to provide low-cost energy to Alaskans, enhance American energy security, and strengthen alliances with Indo-Pacific partners such as Japan and South Korea. In response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Sullivan has traveled to these countries four times to discuss the project with potential investors and high-ranking officials from both government and private sectors. He has also engaged in direct discussions with President Trump about the initiative and shared a detailed document titled "America’s Gasline" with him. Furthermore, Sullivan has sought support from nearly all members of Trump's cabinet regarding the project.
President Trump stated, “My administration is also working on a gigantic natural gas pipeline in Alaska, among the largest in the world, where Japan, South Korea and other nations want to be our partner with investments of trillions of dollars each.” He added that the permitting process is complete.
In an interview following Trump's address, Senator Sullivan remarked on the significance of having presidential backing for this initiative: “The fact that the President of the United States was highlighting the Alaska LNG Project as one of the biggest things he wants to get done for America was huge for our state and huge for our country.” He acknowledged that while progress will take time, having full support from both President Trump and his cabinet is unprecedented for Alaska.
The proposed Alaska LNG Project aims to supply over three billion cubic feet of natural gas daily at low cost and emissions levels. It promises job creation with up to 10,000 construction positions and 1,000 operational roles anticipated.
