U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan from Alaska cast his vote in favor of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, a bill aimed at maintaining Title IX protections by preventing federal funding for schools and universities that permit biological males to compete in female sports categories. This legislation sought to enshrine President Trump's executive order titled "Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports," signed into law on February 5, 2025, which had received widespread support across the nation. However, the bill was halted as Senate Democrats blocked its advancement.

Senator Sullivan expressed concern over past changes that he believes undermined Title IX protections: “Too many girls and women across our country have had their dreams dashed because the former administration shredded Title IX protections by allowing biological men to compete against them in sports,” he stated. He further emphasized the importance of safeguarding fair competition for female athletes: “Protecting our daughters and granddaughters’ right to fair and safe competition is a civil rights issue, and I’m proud to be an original cosponsor of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act."

In addition to his legislative efforts, Senator Sullivan has previously addressed these concerns directly with the Biden administration's Department of Education. He voiced opposition to what he describes as "far-left gender ideology" impacting Title IX, which he argues threatens women's equality, privacy, and safety.
