U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan from Alaska has secured commitments from Lee Zeldin, the nominee for administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), on several key environmental and energy priorities for Alaska. The commitments include supporting the Save Our Seas 2.0 Act, ensuring access to affordable aviation fuel, advancing water infrastructure in underserved communities, and progressing the Alaska LNG Project.

During a Senate Environment and Public Works Committee session, Sullivan emphasized the importance of responsible resource development for increasing life expectancy in Alaska and highlighted natural gas's role in reducing global carbon emissions. He also criticized past EPA enforcement actions in Alaska under Democratic administrations, describing them as "outrageous" and advocating for compliance over armed enforcement.

Zeldin expressed his willingness to visit Alaska and work with Sullivan on various initiatives, including continuing bipartisan efforts on ocean cleanup through the Save Our Seas initiative. "Yes, sir," Zeldin affirmed when asked about supporting ongoing progress on ocean cleanup efforts.

Sullivan also addressed concerns about EPA's enforcement practices involving heavily armed raids under previous administrations. Zeldin agreed that such actions were "outrageous" and committed to focusing more on compliance rather than armed enforcement.

On energy matters, Sullivan praised American innovation in reducing emissions through natural gas production. Zeldin acknowledged this contribution to lowering global emissions: "Brings it down, Senator." Both agreed on working together with private industry to innovate while producing American energy.

Finally, Sullivan discussed the impact of resource development on life expectancy improvements among Alaskan Native communities. He urged support for continued resource development as a matter of life and death for these populations. Zeldin pledged his commitment: "Understood, Senator. You have my commitment to work with you on this."
