In a recent interview on Fox News Channel, U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan expressed criticism of the Biden administration's approach to Iran, advocating for a return to the policies implemented during the Trump administration. The comments from Sullivan, who is part of the Senate Armed Services Committee, come after an attack by Iran-backed proxies in Jordan resulted in the deaths of three U.S. service members and injuries to nearly three dozen others.
Senator Sullivan emphasized the need to "reestablish deterrence with regard to Iran," highlighting that during Trump's presidency, aggressive strategies such as sanctions on Iran's oil and gas sector and exiting the JCPOA were effective. He noted actions like "killing Soleimani" and initiating peace efforts through the Abraham Accords as crucial steps taken then. In contrast, he criticized President Biden for reversing these measures, claiming this has led to increased threats against Americans and instability in the Middle East.
When questioned by Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade about whether the Biden administration's response to global threats has encouraged adversaries' aggression, Sullivan replied affirmatively. He pointed out that post-Trump administration changes have allowed Iran's foreign reserves to grow significantly, allegedly funding groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.
Sullivan also cautioned against any potential increase in pressure on Israel concerning its actions in Gaza as a reactionary measure following recent events. "The worst thing the Biden administration could do right now—and I worry they might—is...put more pressure on Israel," he warned.
These views were further elaborated by Senator Sullivan during an appearance on Fox Business Network’s “Varney & Co.”
