U.S. Senators Dan Sullivan and Alex Padilla have expressed gratitude to their colleagues for the unanimous approval of a Senate resolution designating April 7-13, 2024, as "National Water Week." The bipartisan resolution emphasizes the importance of providing all U.S. communities with access to affordable, safe, and clean drinking water, sanitation, and essential water infrastructure.

The resolution identifies several challenges in achieving this goal, including aging infrastructure, emerging contaminants, lack of resilience to extreme weather events, droughts, and water scarcity. It also underscores the significance of federal investments in addressing these issues and enhancing water affordability and reliability.

"Every American deserves clean, safe drinking water," stated Sen. Sullivan. He highlighted Alaska's struggle with infrastructure despite being resource-rich. Sullivan emphasized the need for prioritizing investments in communities lacking adequate infrastructure through his work on the EPW Committee and the Infrastructure Investments & Jobs Act.

Senator Padilla echoed similar sentiments: "Access to safe, clean drinking water is a human right." He noted that over two million Americans still lack access to basic water necessities at home. Padilla stressed the importance of investing in stormwater recapture and improved water management infrastructure amidst rising water rates.

The resolution received co-sponsorship from Senators Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.), Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.), Tom Carper (D-Del.), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.).
