A workshop focused on pruning techniques for woody plants will take place in Anchorage on April 21, according to an announcement released April 9. The event is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Anchorage Museum Seed Lab, located at 111 W. 6th Ave.
The workshop aims to help participants improve their skills in shaping ornamental trees and shrubs, reducing branch breakage, and repairing damage caused by moose. Organizers say the session is a collaboration between the Anchorage Museum and the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service.
During the class, an instructor will discuss and demonstrate proper timing and methods for making cuts that do not stress either the plant or the person doing the pruning. “Pruning is an important skill for anyone living in a yard with woody plants such as ornamental trees and shrubs,” organizers said.
The workshop is free of charge but requires advance registration through an online form or by visiting https://bit.ly/UrbanPruning. For more information about registration or details about the event, interested individuals can contact Molly Johansson at 907-786-6313 or mjohansson@alaska.edu.
Organizers note that accommodation requests related to disabilities should be made five business days ahead of time by contacting Alda Norris at amnorris2@alaska.edu or calling 907-474-7120. Language access services are also available upon request for those with limited English proficiency.
The event is supported by funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
