A webinar will take place on April 16 where Brandi Jo Nyberg, owner of Sauntering Roots Farm, will discuss techniques and tools used in biointensive and diversified vegetable production. The presentation is scheduled for noon and will be held both in person at the UAF Matanuska Experiment Farm and Extension Center in Palmer and online via Zoom.
The event aims to inform attendees about maximizing small acreage for food production while focusing on soil health. Nyberg’s farm grows more than 30 varieties of vegetables on less than an acre, highlighting how intensive practices can yield significant results from limited space.
Topics to be covered include bed sizing and spacing, essential tools for small-scale operations, interplanting strategies, and maintaining plant and soil health. Organizers say these methods are central to biointensive farming’s goal of sustainable productivity.
Registration is available through an online form or by visiting https://bit.ly/NybergTalk. Additional information can be obtained by contacting the Matanuska Experiment Farm front desk at 907-745-3360.
Requests for disability accommodations should be made five business days before the event by contacting Alda Norris at amnorris2@alaska.edu or calling 907-474-7120. Language access services are also available upon request free of charge.
The program is supported by funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
