The University of Alaska Fairbanks announced on Mar. 30 that its annual Science Potpourri event will take place on Saturday, April 11, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Reichardt Building on the Troth Yeddha’ Campus. The free event is open to all ages and aims to encourage children’s interest in science through interactive experiences.

Organizers say the theme for this year is “Science Fun in the Midnight Sun,” offering a variety of demonstrations and hands-on activities across different scientific fields. Children attending can explore topics such as explosions, fossils, volcanoes, aurora borealis, animals, and space in an environment designed to be both safe and enjoyable.

Attendees will have opportunities to participate in activities like making ice cream frozen with liquid nitrogen and joining a scavenger hunt with prizes. Educational crafts will also be available for children to take home.

The Science Potpourri is presented by the UAF College of Natural Science and Mathematics with support from Brian Rasley, Paul Layer, and Costco Wholesale. Parking during the weekend event is free.

More information about the program can be found online or through its Facebook event page.
