U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan of Alaska has expressed approval following the Social Security Administration's recent announcement regarding retroactive payments for those affected by the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). These payments are part of the Social Security Fairness Act, which was enacted on January 5, 2025. The act aims to restore full Social Security benefits to millions of public servants who were impacted by these provisions.

Senator Sullivan, along with his colleagues, had previously sent a letter urging the Social Security Administration to address the WEP and GPO benefit penalties affecting Alaskans and other Americans promptly.

"I applaud the quick action of the Social Security Administration in implementing the Social Security Fairness Act this week to get Alaskans and Americans the benefits they are entitled to," stated Senator Sullivan. He emphasized that this issue significantly affected Alaskans and noted his ongoing efforts toward an Alaska-specific solution over several years. The Alaska Legislature also supported this initiative with a unanimous resolution.

Sullivan acknowledged the patience of Alaskans who have been waiting for this resolution and expressed gratitude towards those who reached out in support of the legislation.

Further details on how these retroactive payments will be implemented can be accessed through official channels.
