U.S. Senators Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski, along with Representative Nick Begich, have expressed their support for a new executive order signed by President Donald Trump. The order aims to reverse several policies from the Biden administration concerning Alaska's lands and resources, reinstating many of the previous policies from Trump's first term.
The executive order seeks to promote progress on the Alaska Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Project and lift resource restrictions within the National Petroleum Reserve of Alaska (NPR-A). It also addresses hunting and trapping rights on federal lands, restores previously canceled oil and gas leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), advances infrastructure projects like the Ambler Access Project and King Cove Road, revokes regulations related to the 2001 Roadless Rule in Alaska, and aims to resolve issues preventing Alaska Native people from receiving their entitled lands.
Senator Sullivan remarked on the significance of this move: “It is morning again in Alaska. With the stroke of a pen, President Trump has sent America and the world the unmistakable message that unleashing Alaska’s energy and resources will be a top priority of his administration.” He highlighted what he sees as a stark contrast with previous policies under President Biden.
Senator Murkowski emphasized how these changes could impact various aspects of life in Alaska: “The policies laid out in this Executive Order will improve our economy, our budget, and our quality of life while simultaneously making energy more affordable and enhancing national security.”
Representative Begich described this shift as marking "the golden age of America," asserting that under Trump's leadership, "Alaska will be empowered to fully harness its vast energy and mineral resources."
