U.S. Senators Dan Sullivan and Tammy Duckworth are leading a bipartisan delegation to Singapore for the Shangri-La Dialogue, an international security summit focused on strengthening ties with Indo-Pacific allies. The visit follows their official trip to Taiwan and includes discussions with regional leaders on enhancing cultural, economic, and military partnerships.

Senator Sullivan emphasized the importance of alliances in the region: "This annual meeting with defense and foreign ministers throughout the Indo-Pacific is a critical opportunity to deepen America’s alliances, particularly as the threat from the Chinese Communist Party continues to grow and threaten countries in the region." He added that this is a significant advantage over China.

Senator Duckworth reiterated the U.S.'s commitment to global leadership: "I’ve always believed that if America wants to remain a global leader, we have to show up and support our partners and allies—and that means we must continue to lead in the Indo-Pacific."

The delegation plans meetings with several officials including Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, UK Minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan, Republic of Korea Defense Minister Shin Won-sik, among others.

Senator Laphonza Butler expressed her commitment: "I’m proud to join this bipartisan delegation in Singapore for the Shangri-La Dialogue to strengthen the partnership between the U.S. and our Indo-Pacific allies."

Senator Chris Coons highlighted strategic goals: "Our bipartisan delegation’s visit...is an opportunity to engage with key regional players...and continue to support U.S. allies across Asia."

Senator Sullivan's history with the region dates back 30 years when he was deployed during the Third Taiwan Strait Crisis. His ongoing efforts include authoring legislation like the STAND with Taiwan Act aimed at deterring Chinese aggression.

Senator Duckworth has actively worked on enhancing security ties in Asia while securing international investments for Illinois. Her recent initiatives include introducing legislation like Access to Care for Overseas Military Act aimed at improving medical readiness within DoD.

Both senators have previously visited several countries in Asia reinforcing ties through various diplomatic missions.
