U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) criticized President Biden's foreign policy in an interview with Harris Faulkner on Fox News Channel, focusing on the president's final speech to the United Nations General Assembly. Sullivan expressed concerns about the administration's approach toward Iran and global security.
"President Biden mentioned climate change six times and Iran just twice in his speech to the UN. If that's not indicative of the Biden-Harris administration’s priorities, I don't know what is," said Sen. Sullivan. "What we've seen is chaos throughout the world. This is his last foreign policy speech. Americans and people around the world need to ask this question: Are Americans and our allies safer today than we were four years ago? The answer is absolutely not."
Sullivan has been a vocal critic of what he perceives as the administration's leniency towards Iran, advocating for a return to Trump-era sanctions aimed at curbing Iran's influence.
During his conversation with Faulkner, Sullivan emphasized that "Iran is the agent of chaos everywhere—and this administration has appeased Iran in every sphere." He compared current policies unfavorably with those under former President Trump, citing economic measures that significantly impacted Iran.
Harris Faulkner raised concerns about Vice President Kamala Harris' potential future foreign policy approach, asking, "If this is what we get under President Biden, what in the world would we get under Vice President Kamala Harris if she wins the White House?" In response, Sullivan reiterated his stance that recent policies have led to increased instability.
The discussion also touched on military matters and U.S. support for Israel. Sullivan noted frustration with current strategies: "One of the things that's been so frustrating with this administration is that some of the most effective tools that we have in terms of backing Israel and in re-establishing deterrence with regard to Iran aren't necessarily military tools."
He elaborated on sanctions during Trump's presidency that severely affected Iran's economy but claimed these were reversed by Biden-Harris policies: "By the end of the Trump administration, Iran's economy was in free-fall... The Biden-Harris administration comes in, day one, they stop enforcing these sanctions."
On broader security issues, including Russian incursions into Alaskan airspace, Sullivan remarked on increased aggressiveness from adversaries: "In the last two weeks, we've had five Russian bear bomber incursions into our ADIZ—our airspace... This level of aggressiveness from the two biggest adversaries in my part of the world...is unprecedented."
Sullivan concluded by calling for a stronger military presence to counteract perceived weaknesses: "The best way to address that is to regrow our military. This administration won't do that."
