Today, we're throwing the spotlight on DOT Senior Bridge Engineer, Elmer Marx! During an inspection on Bridge #581, Miller Creek, Richardson Highway, Elmer “chain drags” the bridge deck to locate concrete delaminations. The chain makes a distinct hollow sound while rattling over delaminated sections, which deteriorate the deck and bridge condition. Elmer has designed and inspected Alaska’s bridges for over 30 years.
