Our City of Fairbanks Reentry Coordinator, Marsha Oss, recently spent a few days in Juneau as part of the Reentry Fly-In at the beginning of the legislative session.

During her stay, she had the opportunity to join fellow coalition members for advocacy training facilitated by the Alaska Reentry Partnership, as well as meet with a number of elected officials to discuss important needs and concerns for those going through the reentry process.

One of the key concerns that coalition members sought to address during their meetings was for individuals in the custody of the Department of Corrections to receive a state issued identification card prior to their release.  Obtaining such documentation could greatly decrease the barriers faced by reentry individuals when seeking employment and housing.  As a result of the group's efforts, HB53 was introduced on February 1st by Representative Andrew Gray of Anchorage.

We're proud of the hard work and dedication Marsha puts forth along with her fellow coalition members to help provide quality programs and services to members of our community.  Congratulations on helping to implement positive change!
