Super Hard Work

Seems that most of Alaska has gotten a little dose of snow this month! We know it's SUPER hard work for everyone shoveling off roofs, porches and driveways. (Us DOT&PF folks are doing that at our own homes, too.) As we clean up after these weather events, here's some important info to keep in mind:

BERMS: Our plows leave them behind. When there's a lot of snow they can be pretty big. Unlike graders, our plows don't have gates we can release when passing driveways to prevent berms. Even though it's not always welcome news, according to Alaska Statute, it is ultimately the homeowner's responsibility to clean up berms on their property, even if we are the ones who put them there.

DRIVEWAYS: Please do not plow the snow from your driveway onto or across the road. Please plow the snow back onto your property. Alaska law prohibits residents from placing snow onto or across roads because of the safety hazard it can cause other travelers and our crews. Thank you for your help with this!

MAILBOXES: We know some mailboxes might get damaged by our equipment. Learn more about mailbox support design and why building one to our specifications benefits you and can help keep your fellow Alaskans safer: https://dot.alaska.gov/stwddes/dcstraffic/mailbox/
