As of now, I have given verbal Disaster Declaration approval for Lower Yukon REAA Fire.
The disaster declaration for the Lower Yukon REAA, including St. Mary’s and Pika’s Point, will fund reimbursement of emergency protective measures such as evacuation, shelter support, and feeding. No structures have been destroyed at this time and no injuries have been reported.
Today, more than 66 fire personnel were in Saint Mary’s to battle the fire, with more personnel arriving tomorrow. In addition, wildland firefighting aircraft have been dousing the fire with water and fire retardant materials for several days.
Agencies involved in the response include; Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation, American Red Cross of Alaska, Salvation Army Alaska Division, Association of Village Council Presidents, Department of Public Safety, Alaska National Guard, Bureau of Land Management Alaska Fire Service, Yute Air, Grant Aviation, National Weather Service and others.
