This year marks the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Dutch Harbor, the first ever aerial attack by an enemy on the continental United States. Some of WWII’s fiercest fighting took place on the Aleutian Islands, uprooting many Aleuts from their homes with few personal belongings, and held in internment camps.
Today, we remember and honor all who were affected by the attack, commemorating both the military personnel who served and died to defend our nation, and the Aleuts who died while imprisoned. Read more here: https://gov.alaska.gov/.../dutch-harbor-remembrance-day-5/
