Sean Walsh has been named assistant coach for the Alaska Nanooks men’s hockey team ahead of the 2025-26 season. Head coach Erik Largen announced the appointment, making Walsh the third assistant to join the staff this offseason.
“Sean Walsh comes highly recommended with those whom he has worked with for his great hockey mind and relentless work ethic,” said head coach Erik Largen. “He’s one of the top young coaches out there, and his ability to connect with players and find talent is really going to help us on the recruiting trail.”
Walsh previously served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Bowdoin College for three seasons. During that time, Bowdoin’s men’s hockey team achieved a 38–30–10 record, appeared in every NESCAC Tournament, won the 2022–23 conference championship, and qualified for the NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament. Before Bowdoin, Walsh spent a season at University of New England, where he helped guide the Nor’easters to an NCAA Division III National Semifinals appearance. He also worked as video coordinator and statistical analyst at University of Maine from 2017 to 2021.
“I’m honored and excited to join the Alaska Nanooks hockey program and be part of the proud tradition here in Fairbanks,” said Sean Walsh after his hiring. “Coach Largen has built something really special, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the continued success of the program. I look forward to working with the great staff he’s put together, getting to know the players, and helping push this team toward its goals on and off the ice.”
The addition brings further postseason experience and development background as Alaska prepares for another season competing at NCAA Division I.
