UPDATE 10/20/22 The McCarthy roadway from MP 1.5 to 3 will be closed daily during the hours of 7pm to 8am due to reoccurring slides blocking the roadway. These nightly closures will begin tonight October 20, 2022. The duration of these daily closures is unknown but will remain in effect until reoccurring slides are no longer present. The road will re-open during the daytime, if permitted.
UPDATE 10/19/22 ALERT #McCarthy Road is closed due to a slide at MP 58. We anticipate this slide to be cleared by the end of the day.
UPDATE 10/18/22 1:50 PM- The McCarthy roadway is now open. Crews will continue to clean up in areas of slide locations throughout the week. Now that traffic access has been restored, we will focus on ensuring each site is sufficiently cleaned to support for winter operations. Thank you to our hardworking crews who worked extended hours to get the road back open.
UPDATE 10/18/22 AM- As a result of snowfall late last week and rains throughout the weekend, we have seen 5 slides which have impacted the Edgerton and McCarthy highway. Yesterday and last night these slides were reported. We anticipate the re-opening of Edgerton Highway today, conditions permitting. Please follow 511.alaska.gov for updates.
1.) Edgerton highway approx MP 17. – slide has been cleared.
2.) Edgerton highway approx. MP 20 – slide has been cleared.
3.) McCarthy road approx MP 0.5 – slide has been cleared.
4.) McCarthy road approx MP 40 – slide reported to DOT&PF.
5.) McCarthy road approx MP 50 – slide reported to DOT&PF
Each slide reached the road and varied in impact. Slides 1,3,4,5 all blocked the roadway closing traffic.
Hey, #McCarthy, the Edgerton Hwy at MP 33, or better known by the locals as .5 McCarthy Rd, is closed due to a slide. We anticipate this to take the majority of the day to clear and will let you know as soon as the road re-opens!
