U.S. Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan, alongside U.S. Representative Nick Begich, all representing Alaska, have expressed approval of recent announcements by Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum. These announcements include three key decisions aimed at restoring access to federal lands, facilitating land conveyances, and promoting resource production in Alaska.

These decisions align with a recent Executive Order from President Trump focused on maximizing Alaska’s resource potential. The directives from Secretary Burgum involve restoring access to lands within the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (NPR-A) and the Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Additionally, efforts are being made to lift an outdated Public Land Order (PLO 5150) that has previously hindered significant development projects in the region.

Senator Murkowski commented on these developments: “This is wonderful news for Alaska. Secretary Burgum recognizes Alaska’s incredible resource potential and the increasingly onerous restrictions that have been put in place—over our objections—to stop us from responsibly producing and reaching our full potential as a state.”

Senator Sullivan highlighted the collaboration involved in crafting these provisions: “DOI’s announcement today—which implements key elements of President Trump’s day-one executive order to unleash Alaska’s extraordinary resource potential—is great news for our state.”

Congressman Begich emphasized the importance of these decisions for energy development: “The Department of the Interior’s decision is a major step toward securing Alaska’s place at the forefront of America’s energy future.”

The Department of the Interior has outlined Secretary Burgum’s decision memos accordingly.
