The Alaska Nanooks men’s ice hockey team has announced the addition of sophomore goaltender Zak Brice to its roster for the 2025-26 season. Brice, who grew up in Fairbanks, transfers from Arizona State University after spending his freshman year with the Sun Devils in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).
Standing at 5 feet 11 inches and weighing 181 pounds, Brice is a left-handed catcher. He did not appear in any games during his time at Arizona State.
“Zak is a hard working, athletic goaltender,” said head coach Erik Largen. “He is a tremendous competitor as well. He’s a great teammate and a student of the game who’s always looking to improve.”
Before joining Arizona State, Brice played two seasons in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) with the New Jersey Jr. Titans after spending one season in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). In his first year with the Titans during the 2022-23 season, he appeared in 38 games and recorded a goals-against average (GAA) of 2.29 and a .921 save percentage. He also had three shutouts and finished with a record of 25 wins, eight losses, and one overtime loss over more than 2,100 minutes on the ice.
In his second season with New Jersey, Brice again played in 38 games and posted a record of 22 wins, 13 losses, and one overtime loss. His GAA was 3.22 with a .900 save percentage and three additional shutouts.
Over three years in junior hockey—including time in both NAHL and BCHL—Brice played in 77 NAHL games overall, earning a total record of 48 wins, 21 losses, and two overtime losses. His career statistics include six shutouts across regular season play plus four playoff appearances.
Brice plans to study business administration at University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). He becomes the ninth new addition to the Nanooks’ roster for next season and is their second transfer for this recruiting cycle.
