The Alaska Nanooks women’s swimming team achieved a 126-71 victory over Fresno Pacific on Saturday morning in Fresno, California. This win marks the team’s second consecutive dual meet win this season, improving their record to 2-0.
The meet began with a strong performance in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Janci Pangburn, Dorka Dancsok, Cosima Schmiedel, and Talia Wentz finished first with a time of 1:55.21. In the long-distance 1000-yard freestyle event, Kitti Marton led for the Nanooks with a winning time of 11:24.55. Macy Ahrens and Guielsie Borbon followed close behind, giving Alaska the top three spots in that race.
Fresno Pacific secured first place in both the 200 and 50-yard freestyle events. Cosima Schmiedel was Alaska’s top finisher in the 200-yard freestyle, placing third with a time of 2:04.25. Talia Wentz took second place in the 50-yard freestyle at 25.33 seconds.
Dorka Dancsok won the 400-yard individual medley by more than twenty seconds, finishing in 4:43.46. Schmiedel claimed another win for Alaska by taking first place in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:15.59.
In other events, Pangburn narrowly missed victory in the 100-yard freestyle but finished just under half a second behind Fresno Pacific’s Jillian Lambert.
Alaska secured wins in each of the final four events at the meet. Charisma Watkins placed first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:21.54; Marton earned her second win of the day by finishing first in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:22.06; Dancsok also claimed her second victory by winning the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:28.13.
The competition ended with another relay victory for Alaska as Wentz, Giorgia Merlo, McKenzie Fazio, and Pangburn posted a time of 1:41.38 to take first place in the concluding event.
The Nanooks will return home to host Puget Sound for dual meets on October 24-25 at Patty Center Pool before facing Simon Fraser during two additional dual meets scheduled for later that month.
