Alaska Nanooks volleyball sets new single-season win record after sweep over Seattle Pacific

The Alaska Nanooks women’s volleyball team achieved a new program milestone with their 22nd win of the season, defeating the Seattle Pacific Falcons in straight sets. This victory surpasses the team’s previous single-season win record of 21, set in both 1996 and 2024.

In Thursday’s match, the Nanooks maintained control throughout, posting more than 16 kills in each set and limiting the Falcons to no more than 12 per set. The first set ended 25-19 in favor of Alaska, who registered a .244 hitting percentage while holding Seattle Pacific to .105.

The second set was closely contested. After an early lead by Alaska, Seattle Pacific tied the score at 19-19 and later took a brief lead at 22-20. Despite facing set point at 24-23, Alaska responded with consecutive kills from Mikala Henderson and secured the set on a block by Elena Guc and Presley Engelauf.

Alaska dominated the third set, winning 25-15 with a .395 hitting percentage and only two errors. They held Seattle Pacific to nine kills and a .077 hitting percentage.

Haylee Lyons led Alaska with 15 kills (.324), adding 15 digs and two aces for a total of 17 points. Mikala Henderson contributed 14 kills (.423), along with two digs and two blocks. Cynphany Henderson recorded 21 assists, five digs, four kills, and two blocks. Ashlyn White added another 17 assists.

Defensively, Tessa Onaga collected a team-high 21 digs and also contributed five assists and an ace. Kellan Flynn had 12 digs as well as two assists and one ace. Overall, Alaska outhit Seattle Pacific .262 to .106 with a total of 50 kills compared to Seattle Pacific’s 32.

The Nanooks will play their final regular season match against Montana State Billings on Saturday at home in the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium. The event will also serve as Senior Day, recognizing seniors Elena Guc, Elizabeth Jackson, Mikala Henderson, Larissa Scatamburlo, and Ainsley Smith during a postgame ceremony.
