The Alaska Nanooks skiing team began their season in Anchorage with the first day of the Nordic Cup. The men’s team claimed the top three positions in the 10k freestyle event, while Rosie Fordham led the women’s race by a significant margin. Despite these individual successes, the Nanooks trail behind Alaska Anchorage by one minute and eight seconds after the first day. Team scores are determined by combining the top-three times from both men’s and women’s events.
In the men’s competition, Ben Dohlby finished first with a time of 24:23, ahead of teammate Philipp Moosmayer who clocked 25:01. Gabriele Rigaudo secured third place at 25:22, finishing nine seconds before Corbin Carpenter from Alaska Anchorage. This strong showing gave the Nanooks men a lead of two minutes and two seconds over their rivals.
Other results for the men’s team included Cole Flowers in sixth place with 25:38 and Matyas Pavek in eleventh at 26:05. Blake Hanley and Josh Baurick finished fifteenth and sixteenth with times of 26:41 and 26:51, respectively.
On the women’s side, Fordham won her race with a time of 27:31, finishing one minute and forty-three seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Piper Sears placed sixth in her first collegiate race at 31:51. Victoria Myers also made her debut for Alaska, finishing eighth at 33:26. Lucca Duke and Anya Simard completed the top ten for Alaska with times of 35:25 and 35:46.
The final event to decide the Nordic Cup champion is scheduled for tomorrow at 10 a.m., featuring a 7.5k classic race.
