The Alaska Nanooks women’s swimming team is set to compete in the Northwest Collegiate Invite this weekend in Boise, Idaho. The event, hosted by the University of Idaho, will take place at the Idaho Central Aquatic Center from Friday through Sunday. Preliminaries are scheduled each day at 8 a.m. AKST, with finals beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
This marks the first invitational of the season for the Nanooks after a three-week break from competition. In their previous outing against Simon Fraser on October 31 and November 1, Alaska fell in both dual meets but saw notable performances from Dorka Dancsok. Dancsok won both the 200 and 400-yard individual medley events and contributed to victories in both the 200 and 400-yard medley relays. Her time of 4:28.39 in the 400-yard IM set a new pool record and met an NCAA B Cut standard.
Other swimmers have also posted strong times so far this season. McKenzie Fazio holds the third-fastest time in the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference (PCSC) for the 200-yard freestyle with a mark of 1:54.15 achieved against Simon Fraser. Kitti Marton ranks fourth in both the conference’s 1000-yard freestyle (10:38.35) and 1650-yard freestyle (18:23.05). Cosima Schmiedel is eighth in the PCSC for the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:10.32.
Dorka Dancsok has multiple top-10 conference rankings, including sixth-fastest in the 100-yard backstroke (58.77), ninth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.66), third in the 50-yard breaststroke (31.20), seventh in both breaststroke distances, third in the conference for her time of 2:07.73 in the 200 IM, and second for her pool-record-setting swim in the 400 IM—a result that currently stands thirteenth nationally among Division II swimmers.
In relay events, Alaska holds competitive times as well—third-lowest this season for their conference’s 400-yard freestyle relay (3:34.81), tied for third place with their performance in the 200-yard medley relay (1:47.37), and fourth-best time recorded this year for their conference’s 400-yard medley relay (3:54.58).
At this weekend’s invitational, Alaska will compete against teams including University of Idaho, Seattle University, Texas – Rio Grande Valley, College of Idaho, Whitman College, Cal State Bakersfield, and Pepperdine.
Looking ahead on their schedule, Alaska’s next meet will be at UNLV Invite from December 15-17 before returning home to host Westmont on January 16—their final home meet prior to competing at PCSC Championships.
