Alaska Nanooks swimming opens season with dominant win over Fresno Pacific

The Alaska Nanooks women’s swimming team started their 2025-26 season with a strong performance, defeating Fresno Pacific 144-61 in a dual meet held in Fresno, California. The Nanooks won 10 out of the 11 events during the competition.

The meet opened with Alaska securing the top two finishes in the 400-yard medley relay. The relay team of McKenzie Fazio, Dorka Dancsok, Cosima Schmiedel, and Janci Pangburn finished first by more than eight seconds with a time of 4:03.65.

In individual events, Kitti Marton led the way in the 1650-yard freestyle, finishing nearly a minute ahead of her closest competitor with a time of 18:23.05. The Nanooks swept the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle as Fazio (2:03.15), MacKenzie O’Keefe (2:03.92), and Schmiedel (2:04.27) finished first through third.

Talia Wentz won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.11 seconds, followed by Mariia Sirotinskaia in second place at 26.21 seconds. Dorka Dancsok earned one of her two victories by winning the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:13.50, finishing over three seconds ahead of second place.

Other event winners for Alaska included Schmiedel in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.15) and Pangburn in the 100-yard freestyle (54.60). Fresno Pacific’s Charlotte Wilbers was victorious in the 100-yard backstroke, marking her team’s only win.

Marton secured her second victory by winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:22.50, while Dancsok also claimed another win by taking first place in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:07.38.

The meet concluded with Alaska’s team of Fazio, Wentz, Sirotinskaia, and Pangburn winning the 400-yard freestyle relay with a finish time of 3:44.85.

The Nanooks will compete again tomorrow morning against Fresno Pacific.
