Alaska Nanooks swimming holds fifth after day two at Northwest Collegiate Invite

The Alaska Nanooks women’s swimming team ended the second day of competition at the Northwest Collegiate Invite in Boise, Idaho, holding fifth place with 432 points.

In relay events, the Nanooks’ top finish in the 200-yard medley relay came from McKenzie Fazio, Dorka Dancsok, Giorgia Merlo, and Janci Pangburn. They placed eighth with a time of 1:46.07. In the same event, Alaska also finished 13th.

Giorgia Merlo led the team in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 58.70 seconds to place 21st in the C Final. MacKenzie O’Keefe and Kaidence Sampsel competed in the E Final of that event, finishing 35th and 39th respectively.

Dorka Dancsok continued her strong performance by placing third in the A Final of the 400-yard individual medley (IM) with a time of 4:26.99, achieving another NCAA B Cut qualification. Cosima Schmiedel and Charisma Watkins swam in the C Final for this event, placing 17th and 22nd.

In the 200-yard freestyle A Final, McKenzie Fazio finished fourth with a time of 1:53.68. Ali Pecore also reached the A Final and placed sixth at 1:55.54. Kitti Marton (15th), Janci Pangburn (22nd), and Mariia Sirotinskaia (26th) participated across various finals within this event.

For the 100-yard breaststroke, Dorka Dancsok earned a spot in the B Final and finished tenth with a time of 1:05.24. Macy Ahrens and Sariah Rodgers raced in the D Final, coming in at positions 25 and 26.

McKenzie Fazio was seventh overall in the A Final for the day’s last individual race—the 100-yard backstroke—clocking a time of 57.51 seconds. Charisma Watkins, Mariia Sirotinskaia, and MacKenzie O’Keefe competed in later finals for this event.

Alaska’s relay teams took sixth and tenth place finishes in the concluding relay race of day two—the 800-yard freestyle relay—with Fazio, Marton, Merlo, and Pecore leading their squad to a time of 7:45.99.

Competition will conclude tomorrow with preliminary races beginning at 8 a.m., followed by finals starting at 2 p.m., both times listed as AKST.
